This study contributes to the subjective well-being and retirement literature by quantifying life satisfaction before (4) and after retirement (9+) periods asking: Are retirees more satisfied? Fixed-effects and causal instrumental variables (IV) estimates with individual longitudinal data of the Socio-Economic Panel (SOEP, 33 waves) analyze anticipation and adaptation retirement effects of statutory insured and civil service pensioners in Germany.

Disability-free life expectancy had been rising continuously in the United States until 2010, suggesting working longer as a solution for those financially unprepared for retirement. However, recent developments suggest improvements in working life expectancy have stalled, especially for minorities and those with less education.

In this meta-analysis I try to answer the question what the causal effect of retirement on health is. There are many conflicting results in the literature, partly because of the endogenous relationship between retirement and health. I’ve collected 576 results from 61 studies around the world into the causal effect of retirement on health.

A work community that includes both young and old workers encourages workers to stay in working life longer, a study by the Finnish Centre for Pensions shows. The extensive study based on register data examined the effects of interactions between individuals and work communities on continued working.

Investments in lifelong learning often create unsatisfactory results and contribute to reproduction of inequalities. A lifecourse approach allows the study of accumulation mechanisms and discovering how path dependency in behaviours relates to macrostructural mechanisms. Using data from the Survey of Health, Ageing, and Retirement in Europe (SHARE), we trace individual training trajectories in the population of 50+ in twelve European countries between 2010 and 2015 (27 370 respondents).

We analyze experiences of members in a DC pension scheme from Sweden, one of the first countries that launched choice-based funded individual pension accounts.

Privat AFP bygger på tariffavtale og omfatter 800 000 arbeidstakere. En tariffdekning på 50 prosent sammen med særlige kvalifiseringsregler bidrar til inn- og utgang av ordningen. Det gir gevinster og tap av alderspensjon. Hver fjerde person som var med ni år før de var 62 år, faller ut av AFP. Uførhet forklarer en tredjedel av frafallet. Etter uførhet er det fortsatt 15–20 prosent som ikke kvalifiserer. 60 prosent skyldes at personer slutter i en AFP-bedrift, mens 40 prosent skyldes at bedriften ikke lenger omfattes av AFP. Kvinner og lavlønte har større sannsynlighet for frafall enn menn og høytlønte. Tettes hullene i AFP, vil årlige kostnader øke med 25 prosent. Frafallet reiser tvil om AFP-ordningens rolle i det samlede pensjonssystemet.

Concerns regarding the long term sustainability of the welfare state have urged national governments to reform their pension systems. The pace in which reforms have been implemented in the Netherlands took many employees by surprise. Cohorts born in 1950 and later had to adjust their perspectives on retirement several times in succession. This paper addressed the question how working adults age 60+ adjust to the changing prospects of a longer working life.
